Othello the Legatus Act 5 Scene 1 Part 2

Act Five Scene 1 Part 2

During then, the two newly arrived was Gratiano and Lodovico, who had taken the liberty of checking the land for investment. They heard the cries of help but they are unarmed. And more they feared rushing into the dark streets.

"Help! Help!" Cassio shouted. He thought to himself, am I to die here all alone without assistance.

"Its the cry of help. The person is in dire needs of help." Gratiano strained his ears to here, but his mind told him not to push his bravery up front. They are not in Rome and more to it, they are past their prime to handle any bandits or barbarians.

"Help me!" Cassio shouted once more. This time Iago came up from his hiding place.

"Who's there?" Iago shouts as he approached the darkened street.

"Its the Centurion. Its Iago." Gratiano recognised the figure. "We are here. Its me and Lodovico."

Roderigo heard the shouts also did his own along side with Cassio. Iago was joined by the two Rome members.

"I am here. I am hurt." Cassio continued his shout. "I been stuck by villans. There is one still here."

"Its Cassio. I recognized the voice." Gratiano moved to the voice. At the same time, Roderigo shouted out his predicament. Iago heard both voices.

"I am here. Help me." Roderigo screamed. It was then Cassio remembered that voice. It was the other villan.

"Its the other one. Kill him. He is a rogue legionnaire." Cassio shouted out. It was Iago who rushed to the voice, but he stumbled on Roderigo. In the dark, with the uniform, he looked like any other legionnaires. Iago thinking it was Cassio, thrust his gladius into the other.

"Die you villan!" Iago murder his friend. He then saw it was Roderigo. He slumped back in shock. Gratiano and Lodovico meanwhile had went down the street shouting their voice to raise the alarm. Iago composed himself and walked to the other. He saw Cassio holding his leg.

"I am hurt. Right knee." Cassio told him and looked back at the wound. Iago leveled his gladius and was to thrust into the other's face when he heard the shout.

"Cassio, where are you?" It was the other whore, Branius. Iago saw his chance dashed, decided to be the good guy.

"He is here. He is wounded." Iago leaned down to aid the other. Branius joined them.

"Cassio, are you hurt bad?" Branius was panicking on the sight of Cassio.

"I am crippled. The bastard stab me in the back and then one other stab me in the right knee. I am crippled..." Cassio broke down. His lover, Branius held the Centurion on the chest. Others are joining in on the shouts of help. A healer came and attended to Iago.

"Cassio, do you know who could had ambushed you?" Iago tired his luck. He needed to know or he could be in deeper mess.

"Nay, I did not see the other. Did you get him?" Iago asked.

"Yes, I think one of them." Iago replied. "I killed him over there."

"Apollo blessed me." Cassio swore under his breath and then slipped to unconsciousness. The healer took over while Iago and Branius stepped aside. The healer had Cassio taken away on the stretcher. Iago and Branius walked over to the other dead person.

"Its Roderigo." Iago shouted out. He rushed to the dead body and checked for any signs of possible recovery. He wanted to be sure, and was assured that the other was dead. He stood up and confronted Branius.

"You ......Did you set all this up? Damned! I knew you were his lover." Iago pushed the other by he shoulder. He went direct onto Branius. "Do you knew where he was moving? He was going to acting Legatus. Were you jealous?"

Branius turned pale. He did not know, and if he had knew, he would had been happy. But now he was accused of setting this up. He was confused.

"You do not want him to be the Legatus. You would had lose him. You bastard!" Iago pushed the other back. "You think you are his lover, that mean you can control him and not the other way."

"I did not do anything. I just arrived." Branius explained himself. He pulled away, and walked to follow the healer. Iago was to stopped him when he saw Gratiano.

"Gratiano, when did you turned up?" Iago looked to the other. "There was a crime here. You have to leave."

"I know. I was with Lodovico." Gratiano replied but was cut in by the other.

"You were here....and without escorts? This is unbecoming. I would have you assigned escorts during your stay." Iago told him.

"No, we are alright. We ran on hearing the shouts to get help." Gratiano asked. "I saw the one that was stabbed. Was it Cassio?"

"Yes, it was." Iago told him. In turn Gratiano was shocked.

"Cassio? He was the Pilus. How could they do this?" Gratiano asked.

"Anything is possible." Iago replied. "With whores around, this things happened."

"Whores?" Gratiano sounded confused. It was then Emilia arrived. She had heard the commotion and had joined in the crowd. She saw Iago and stepped forward.

"Iago, I heard Cassio was stabbed. What happened?" Emilia asked.

"Whores! They are all because of whores like you." Iago snapped at Emilia. He was losing control. It was to be a simple killing but now complicated. If Cassio recover then this thing would get complicated. With the Rome arrivals, the whole plan is going wrong.

Iago left to look for Cassio. He would end it somehow. And then Desdemona, the other whore here. Whores always spoil his plans.
