Loki Passage 2.1

2.

Farbauti held up the mallet above his head to deflect the Asgardian halberd. He moved his right wrist while swinging the mallet to hit the Asgardian on the left thigh. The blow caused the Asgardian to fall off his horse. Farbauti followed through with his mallet aimed at the Asgardian chest, but his attention was diverted by another Asgardian.

“Farbauti, your fighting had improved.” Odin, then a young Warrior had intervened. Odin was holding a spear; one of a sharpened metal head on a shaved long wooden oak tree trunk. The young Warrior was dressed in the bright shaded leather chest plate, with limbs greaves, and fur lined knee high boots. On his head was then half faced helm with the double horns on the forefront. Odin then swung the spear in a wide arc to push the Giant back.

Farbauti had stepped back used his mallet to deflect the spear. He then tried to reason with the Asgardian warrior.

“Odin, can we parlay?” Farbauti asked. It was then he heard the familiar cry of his youngest then. He looked to the left and saw Blyestir was hurt. He was to move to his son, but Odin had moved to attack the Giant. Farbauti deflect the new attack and retreated back, while Gollen stepped in to engage Odin. He ran to the side of his son who was on the ground with his hands holding back his chest wound.

“How are you, my son?” Farbauti looked at the wound. It was a deep one; a fatal wound, and the lad may die. He had seen such wounds. He looked to the fighting Asgardian and tried to find the one who did that to his son.

“Father….it hurts.” The young son moaned out in pain. He reached out to his father, but the elder one was distracted. He was surprised to see the battle was more than a skirmish; it was more intense than that. The Asgardian was fighting back and with deadly determination. He saw the fallen Giants were battered with deadly force by the Asgardian.

“Fight back, you cursed sons of Jotun.” Farbauti rallied the surviving Giants. They were fighting hard, but then with the call, they went berserk with their strength. He got up and charged at Odin with the reputed approach of his name. Odin retreated back on the new onslaught, but unseen by Farbauti; his other son was wounded in another confrontation.

“Father!” Farbauti heard the cry from Helbindi. He held back his attack and looked for his son. He saw the young one also on his back next to his other son. He ran over and looked to his sons.

“Father….” Blyestir was the first to succumb to his wounds. Farbauti held his son’s hand, while Helbindi who was injured in the back and left shoulder, crawled to his father.

“It hurt, Father.” Helbindi whispered to his father.

Farbauti was to rise up when the Asgardian with his horse charged at the Frost Giant. The charge caused the Giant to fall forward, but the horse had stepped on his son, causing the loss of his other son. He lashed out blindly and hit the horse rear legs. The horse fell on it knees and threw off its rider.

Farbauti rushed forth with his mallet and landed it on the fallen Asgardian. The mallet struck deep into the Asgardian head, shattering the metal helm and breaking the skull beneath. He then stood up to find another to take his blow, but he was not see the riding Asgardian who plunged the spear into his spine. He fell to his knees on the thrust, but swung the mallet in a wild arc. He managed to hit his assailant on the left shoulder before the mallet fell from his hands.

“Odin’s down.” The calls were heard while the surviving Giants were retreating. Farbauti had heard the call and used the commotion to escape himself. He ran on along the river and then up to the tree lines. He ran till he reached his home.
