28.
The
Colonel looked at the screen with his fingers tapping on the console inside the
new fortress of his. He held then watchful eyes on the screen with a weak smile
on his face. He still held controls on the cameras at the city, well not all
were intact but he held great sight of the city. The servants were everywhere;
defending or fighting some survivors. The Dark Ones have regrouped and they
were gaining grounds and that concerned him.
“Colonel,
we have new arrivals.” The officer reported to him. “They are approaching the
main gate.”
“Send
them away. I won’t have any more survivors.” Colonel stated his stand but he
was countermanded on it.
“It’s
an armored convoy and the Senate is out there to receive it.”
“Who
allowed them out?” The Colonel changed the camera to watch the meeting. He was
upset not to be told. He knew not all the Enforcers were for him. He saw the
Senate members met the newcomers.
“Welcome,
my son.” Emperor Caesar greeted his bloodline. He then introduced the others.
“My Senate members.”
Anderson
looked to the others. He had left City at a young age to live with his mother,
but he kept his communications with his father. They held a close relationship.
“I
will take you to see the Colonel.”
“And
here I am.” The Colonel approached from the rear. He was escorted by five
guards, and three Terminators. The three units encased in some armor suit that
covered them from neck below with the head portion covered by a dome-like
transparent cover. They all held a square pack on their back with the cables to
the vambrace on the lower arm where which may appear as projectile barrels.
“Pardon
my guards. They are always concerned with my safety.” The Colonel looked to the
vehicles with the mounted cannons. “Nice guns. Are they yours or your
father’s?”
“They
don’t work. It's for display.” Anderson explained to the Colonel.
“Anderson
is my son, Colonel.” Emperor Caesar replied. “He is here to protect me.”
“Is
he? Then do it, son. Show your father who you are.” The Colonel looked at the
other officer. Anderson nodded and drew out his sidearm. He shot his father
there, Brutus and Anthony leaving Octavia and Lady Cleop.
“We
are one too many on the Council. Now without them, we have only our Empresses.”
The Colonel bowed to the surviving Council members.
“Mother,
we are on schedule.” Anderson looked to Lady Cleop who was his mother. “Father
does not deserve you.”
“Good
task, Anderson. I would like you to meet Octavia. She does not speak.” Lady
Cleop introduced the other surviving member. Octavia was a lady beneath the
cloak and high boots. In her pantsuit, and bald look, she did look like a male
with the snarl on the face.
“We
have waited too long. We planned the revolution to take on the City but the
servants overtake us on the schedule.” Lady Cleop voiced out. “And you took
your time to come here.”
“I
have to get my resources up. It took time for me to coordinate things.”
Anderson replied. “Anyway, the servants diverted our attention.”
“And
now that we are not diverted, we will take back the City. Activate the counter-attack.”
The Colonel called in. “I believe we are still on the original plans.”
Anderson
nodded to the Colonel.
It
was what Napoleon had anticipated.
But
the most thing does not work as anticipated.
I will not tolerate this.
Napoleon
was in a rage. The new alliance under the Movement Pack under its leadership
but it did not include the gorillas. The latter were considered as friendly
parties.
Give me the numbers.
Lord Napoleon, we hold the advantage. We hold the
guns but they held the strength.
Give the command. No survival.
Napoleon
looked at the chimpanzee who reported in. It wanted to ask the other leaders of
the Movement Pack. It took over the leadership from the female and the earlier
moves have gained its advantage but that advantage was getting eroded. The apes
have revolted. Napoleon knew the leader. It was a silverback; an elderly one
that had the apes united and now in their revolution.
It’s
every creature for themselves.
Doctor
Lanceston left out a sigh which was a painful relief to him. Once he traced the
change in behavior to the possible theory of evolution, he focused his research
on that. He diagnosed the possible changes and subsequent changes, then he
found the trail to the change. It was evolution. The diagnostics saw the
trigger in the synapses that triggered off the changes. It was an incidental
move and the natural evolution progressed. That was his conclusion.
“Doctor
Lanceston, I need …” Doctor Julius then saw the screen. He had worked with
Lanceston long enough to ignore anything that was something worth giving an eye
over. “What have you got there?”
Without
thinking, Doctor Lanceston the nearest item he could get his hand on. There was
the metal mug he was given to drink from. It was a heavy goblet made with iron.
The goblet impacted on the face and Doctor Julius fell to the side. He tried to
get up but Doctor Lanceston had moved into action. He grabbed hold of his metal
chair and hit it on the doctor. He hit with the chair until he saw the blood om
the flooring. He then stopped.
Doctor
Julius's face was unrecognizable although he was still breathing.
“Julius,
you disrupted my life work. It would have all work for all of us and we will be
heroes.” Doctor Lanceston cursed at the other. “Why?”
His
rage made him step in Doctor Julius’ face. He did not stop until he saw the
brain cells spilled out. It was how the servants used to do in the wilds. It
was their basic instinct then for a wounded prey was more dangerous in the
wilds.
It
was how Bernice felt than when she looked at her position then. She was
surrounded by three gorillas and Juanico was injured at her feet. It was to be
a routine hunt. Food was low and they volunteered to go out to get food. They
had trailed an ape to the secluded warehouse. Or it was before.
“It’s
in there.” Juanico ran ahead with the spear in her right hand. Bernice was
catching up behind with her left leg limping from a misstep earlier. She
hobbled along and saw Juanico entered the warehouse. It was their normal
protocol to survey before entering an unknown premise but the days of hunger
had preluded training. Bernice followed suit and saw Juanico being tossed by
the ape that she was following. The ape was paired by two others and they were
facing the fallen officer. Juanico was then holding on to her right thigh while
she crawled backward. Bernice notched an arrow and fired it at the ape which
tossed Juanico. Her aim was good at the right arm and it annoyed the ape.
“Gah!”
The wounded ape looked at Bernice and then roared out louder with the body
crouched forward. It was a sign of aggression and Juanico reached Bernice.
“Get
ready to run,” Bernice told the other who nodded back and struggled onto her
feet.
“Nice
knowing you, bitch.” Juanico added sarcasm to her tone. “You run and I will
hold them back.”
Bernice
could not reply for then the wounded ape had rushed forth with the limbs
propelling the huge frame. She had notched in another arrow and fired that into
the ape’s face. The arrow found its mark on the left eye and the ape roared out
in pain while reaching to pull out the arrow. Bernice had then notched her
third arrow and shot it at the ape’s throat. It went in there and caused the
ape to drop down the ground, writhing in pain. It prompted the other two gorillas
to rush at the ladies.
The
shots came simultaneously.
Both
gorillas went down with the head blown apart.
Bernice
looked to the rear and saw Lances with Leroy. They were armed with rifles.
“Oh,
God!” Bernice slumped her shoulders and dropped the bow. Lances approached them.
“How
did you get here?” Bernice asked. She saw the chimpanzee. “Astrid?”
“Yes,
it's Astrid. We were exploring the area here.” Lances told Bernice. “We have stronghold
yonder but supplies are scarce. We have
many survivals there. The groups are fighting among themselves over food. We
had to find food.” Lances told her.
“Where
did you come from?”
“The
Dome. It’s in the canyon.” Bernice told him.
Astrid
listened in on the talks.
