Devils Own ( Steampunk and Mystic ) 4.6

4.6

“Captain, when are they going to shoot?” The gunner in the Dozer with the marking IV which was the commanding tank of the armored vehicles. The commander of the Dozer column ignored the gunner while his eyes were on the eye glass. He had seen the Citadel unfolded itself by rising above the ground, and then resting on its laurel at the ground level. What was a moat collapsed and it formed a pit around the structure. Then the bridges appeared and the Stingers rolled out to park after the pit. Its upper windows on wall opened up to have a platform extended out over twenty feet out and were supported by the two beams to support it. On the platform, the Beast as it was nicknamed by them. He heard that they held the incendiary explosives. It was a nightmare for the Dozers, as it was feared by every crew to be burned alive. Death by explosion or bullets was a preferred mode than the fate of burns.

“Captain, the Stingers are out too.” The driver of Dozer IV shouted out.

“Concentrate on your driving. Clarke.” The commander told his driver. He scouted the sky for the dirigibles and saw them hovering at a distance away. Even the Pegasus was staying their distance. He was eyeing the horizon for more of what he feared. It was then the command came.

“Move out.” The commander gave the order when he saw the raised flag on the Dreadnaught. The order went down the line and the vehicles rolled out followed by the three hundred troopers.

It was then the concern of the commander appeared. From the pit came the fleeting bluish that flew up. There was not one but a dozen of it. These were the Guardians who guard the main doorways to the Citadel, and in times then, the ones who will first defend the Citadel.

“Furies!” Those were the nicknames to the dragons that were never seen by the troopers until that day but they had heard of such monster. The troopers stopped in their track when they saw the dragons flew up from the pit. Eight of the dragons flew up and went for the dirigibles while the rest soared to the land invasion force. They flew in pairs and took to their targets.

The two pairs that targeted the Dozers and Stingers dived low and then leveled in a row. They hit the armored vehicles while the gunners tried to bring them down. Each time the bullets hit them, they get passed through the ethereal body but the compacted energies did not compensate for the wound. It remained like a body wound hole, but there was no bleeding like that of the human.

“We are not hurting them.” The gunner in Dozer UV shouted out. “It’s going past their body.”

The dragon changed in shade and then released its orbs of flame from its mouth. The flaming orbs hit the Dozers and Scorpions and covered them in flames. Four Stingers and two Dozers went up when the flames reached the armory.

“Send out the sonar waves.” The new weapon was brought out from the Dozers. It was a parabola disc mounted on the rear of the Dozer and connected to the engine. The engine was piped to a turbine that will turn the sonar amplifier which will send the waves to the parabola. The parabola disc was to direct the sonar wave. It was narrow in width and thus needed to be aimed at the dragons but it was disrupting their ethereal body. The wave when hit on the dragon will cause it to lose part of its form.

“It’s working.” Dozer IV Commander shouted out but he missed the dragon sky rocketing toward his Dozer. The dragon was badly hit by the sonar waves attack, and it had sought to end its fight with the dive. It crashed onto the Dozer and killed the crews.

Then the signal came to the Stingers to move out. A total of fifty Stinger trucks rolled out to meet the Dozers and Scorpions. Irina fired her gun at the Scorpion and brought down the gunner before he could react. She had then traversed her gun towards another Scorpion. Derreen had held back on her sling shot as it was not within the firing distance, but she shouted out direction to Lucas to move nearer. A shot from a Dozer III six pounder barely missed the Stinger on the left, but Lucas managed to evade it. Irina fired back with her gun but it was ineffective against the armored plates.

“Hold the position, Lucas.” Derreen shouted out while she adjusted her sling shot. She reckoned it was within the firing distance and released the explosive. It flew up in an arc and then landed on Dozer III rear, and destroyed the parabola disc while the chemical burned into the plate there. Soon it reached its timed for the incendiary explosives to explode inside the cracked armor plate. The rear section was also where the armory store located. The flames burned towards there, and caused the commander to call for the crew to abandon the war machine. Dozer III soon exploded when the flames ignited the stored explosives. The shock wave of the explosion caused a nearby Scorpion to veer off its path and crashed.

The dragons were also taking its toll on the armored vehicles but the sonar wave was adding to the balance. One dragon after being hit several times by the sonar wave weapon, it suddenly dissipated in mid air. It could not hold its form when it lost most of its combined particles in the frame. Its mate shrieked out in pain and dive towards the others Dozers. It landed on the ground and blew its flames at the war machines but it was struck from by several others that it soon collapsed before dissipating.

Scorpion II was chasing the tail of the dragon, firing it machine guns at the fleeing dragon. Its driver was so fixated on the dragon that it did not realized it had reached the Stingers’ line of three units. It braked but the Stingers were ready for it. The Stingers hit the Scorpion with their machine guns, literally tore the Scorpion into a heap of metal.
Then the call of the klaxon came.

It was the arrival of the Dirigibles.
