Crusaders III: The New Age 1.40

6.3.          Medical Fight

Helmut hand carried the lady while Micheal scout ahead fully armed for any Vampire or Giants. They heard explosions and screams but did not encounter any on their way out. They exit by the man-hole and found themselves on the street lined with abandoned vehicles either burnt or damaged.

“The facility is half a block away.” Micheal told him. They ran along and saw the holes created by the Nephilim, but they did not encounter any resistance. They walked on and then saw the reason for the non-harassed movement; there were a group of eight Vampires there standing guard with two Nephilim alongside. The Vampires were armed with rifles and machetes.

“Damn! They have that guarded.” Micheal cursed out loudly. He saw he saw then the dead Resistance members who tried to reach the medical facility.

Helmut lowered the injured lady and rushed forward. He had seen too many innocent deaths to let another one die. He drew and swung the sword at them. He reached the Nephilim who stood in his way, deflecting his sword, while the other hit him at the left shoulder. It was a bone crushing blow but he had move his body to had it barely hit him hard. He went down on his knees and the first Nephilim he struck, swung the mallet at his head.

It was a death blow.

But the blow did not come. Instead the Nephilim was charged by a flying creature. The Nephilim was pushed back and fell among the Vampires.

“Gargoyles!” The Vampires screeched out. The above sky was filled by a half dozen of the flying creatures which were swooping down. The Vampires reached for their weapons, but the Gargoyles were more practical. They hurled down their own projectile; stones fashioned for throwing objects. The projectile stones were like missiles with a deadly impact precision aimed for the heads. Three Vampires went down in seconds while the Gargoyles went pass them. The other Vampires fought back with their weapons, and shot at the fleeing Gargoyles. They hit one of the Gargoyles; blowing off part of the left wing.

The Nephilim struggled in the grasp of the Gargoyle, and at a height of fifty feet, the Gargoyle flew the Nephilim towards a building wall. The Gargoyle released the Nephilim like a released bomb at the wall. The wall came crumbling down with the Nephilim.

The other Nephilim stood its ground between the Vampires and the landed Gargoyles. The Gargoyles looked like a bird like creature with wings, but its facial expression was distinguished by the cranial bumps that give it the appearance of growing horns. Its ears are swept back with the pointed edge, while its open jaws reveal the fangs. The creature was shaped like Man, but was covered in stone texture that formed its skin that also was of the same hardness in material. Its height was about that of Man, but with the spread of its wings; it reached the span of twice its height. Each creature carried a bag slung across its chest, holding the arsenal of stone projectiles.

The Vampires opened fire with their phasers, but the Gargoyles all flew up in different directions while hurling their stones at the Vampires. One of the Gargoyles did not make it, with half of the lower body shot up, but the others took their tolls on the Nephilim which was a bigger target. The stones thrown hit the Giant at the vulnerable spots, and the later collapsed on its knees. It was then Helmut moved into action recovered from the crippling blows. He rushed at the Giant and thrust the sword into its face. It was a killing move, and the Giant collapsed down unmoving.

Micheal had his revoler aimed at the Vampires and took down two more before the rest flee for safety.

Helmut grabbed the wounded lady but she was past saving. She had a shot into the side of her neck during the battle. He screamed out in frustration and then looked at the Gargoyles.

“Who are you?” Helmut reply was a bad knock on the back of his head rendering him unconscious.
