Loki Passage 24

7.
“Loki, you may run but you can’t hide from me. I could hear your heartbeats.” Heimdall have scouted the battle field for Loki while he reduced the numbers among the Army of Hel. He was gifted with acute hearing that could pick up the fluttering of the insect wings from afar. “Faced me like a warrior.”
“I am here, you imbecile.” Loki called out from the right side of the pursuing warrior. Heimdall looked to the figure there and roared out. He charged at the figure but ended battling a large boulder.
“Stop your cowardly acts, Loki. I seen that boulder and had reduced it.” Heimdall called out. “You have one less place to hide.”
Heimdall then saw the new threat to him. A group of Hel warriors have fashioned a battering ram from a discarded large bone of a giant creature, but Heimdall had leapt to the side before he slashed at the last warrior after they passed him. He then turned to grab the other warrior by the bony shoulder and hurled him to the side.
“Enough of the silly antics! Fight me like a warrior, Loki.” Heimdall called out. He had seen the death of Odin and Freyr but he was told to fight Loki. It was Odin’ command he heeded then, or he would had charged at Sutr for killing his friend. He then saw Loki standing there in the short distance, but there were eight figures of Loki there.
“Come and get us, you imbecile for a warrior.” The group of Loki all called out. Heimdall reached for one of his battle axe at the back. He hurled it in an swing and the axe went in an arc to hit the Loki’ figures. He got four of the eight which went down in with dramatic antics of dying throes.
“Guess you missed the right one.” The other four Loki voiced out. Heimdall was giving up that easily and rushed at them but he found himself confronted by a charging group of Hel warriors. Heimdall did not falter in his charge and swung his spear in an arc. He brought them all down and then used his strength to reduce them to scattered bones.
“Show me your true self so your bones will be crushed like theirs.” Heimdall called out before he took deep breaths from his exertions.
“I doubt so.” It was the voice of Loki but it came from a dead warrior at the feet of Heimdall. The jaws of the skull moved as if it was talking to him.
“Bah!” Heimdall stepped on the face of the dead warrior before he proceeded on. He was in his rage and all who stood in his way was killed or maimed. He saw the Thor half crouched before the serpent and the warrior was dying.
“No! Not you too, Thor!” Heimdall screamed out in pain and it was then Loki appeared from the rear to thrust the spear into the other’s back.
“Die, Heimdall! Die!’ Loki twisted the spear and then dragged it to the right side of the chest. Heimdall was taken off guard by the attack then fell forward onto his knees. He held onto his spear to hold himself upright. Loki laughed at the wounded warrior.
“You have forgotten your gift in your rage, my old friend.” Loki reminded him. “In a battle, we need our wits on us or we will lose. Now suffer for your mistake.”
Loki turned to walk away and did not see the other dropped the spear. Heimdall reached for the remaining battle axe on his back and hurled it at Loki. The axe embedded into the trickster spine and sent him forward to the ground. Loki reached for the axe but his hand could not pull it out. He rolled to his side and looked at Heimdall.
“You are a crafty one, Heimdall. I did not see that coming.” Loki called out. “Guess both of us won.”

That ended the saga of Loki and Heimdall at the battlefield.
