Mordred 19.1

19.

The Previous Realm

Merlin staggered on his legs before balancing himself by the tree trunk. He was whisked away by Berlin in a rush from the Hall. The later had then sealed the great doors of the Hall so that it could not be opened. He then waved his hands and the area around them was soon filled with more archangels. Berlin gave his command that if the doors were breach they were to remove all the escapees. He then called on a spell which opened a portal for them. They stepped into it and were soon on a hill top looking at the sea.

“Berlin, I had expected you to remain incognito as the Head of the Academy. It was a hard work to keep you hidden.” Merlin looked to his own brother while he stepped away. Berlin had ignored the other and looked himself out to the sea.

“I did as you told me. I have always listened to your advice.” Merlin continued on. “I feigned ignorance when I saw you then as Azrael. I acted surprise when you mentioned the vortex.”

“The vortex was to be our secret and yet you sounded out to Keb. Have you lost your mind?” Merlin was getting upset.

“The vortex was our doing and passage to be reunited and yet you utter to an enemy.”

“Hush, Merlin. Please soothe yourself with the whispering wind here.” Berlin raised his arms to the skies while he spoke.
“Hear the creation of HIS.”

“Berlin, hold your own leisure thoughts.” Merlin was getting upset at the non-concerned look of his brother. “Are you listening to me?”

Berlin continued with his enjoyment and that irritated Merlin. The later lashed out with a fire spell at the feet of Berlin. The spell did not startle Berlin but he did glared at Merlin.

“My other ego as Azrael needed more freedom to express his influence.” Berlin told Merlin.

“I knew that. I have been covering your follower’s mistakes.” Merlin hit back. “I was to only encounter the renegades. Then ….”

“Renegade? I liked that. On their side, they were heroes.” Berlin laughed. “Funny how we tagged ourselves depending on whom we serve. One time we were Angels and then we became the Fallen. Now the ….”

“Enough of your talks, Berlin. I had seen them all before.” Merlin paced himself to the clearing. “We were to be united but with your ideas, you exposed us to the enemy.

“Merlin, or shall I call you by your other name; Lucifer.” Berlin hit back. Merlin looked at the other and was to snap back but he then sighed.

“Okay, you win.” Berlin finally spoke out. “I have triggered the vortex. It’s arriving soon. Are the ships ready?”

“Yes.” Merlin replied. “I made them to your specifications but there are four which needed some checking.”

“Well, get them ready. We are leaving soon.” Berlin told him. “We cannot wait for too long.”

“Wait! Why is Lilith involved here?” Merlin cut the conversation to the archangel they escaped from.

“She is part of  the rival factions. We …”

“You broke us into factions. Rival factions.” Merlin was listening to the excuses.

‘No! I did not create the fractions. She did it.” Berlin was getting irritated. “Lilith was never pleased. She wanted more. She fought over Adam and with his loss she became more intense to win over. She thought by getting close to Adam, she would be selected but it was never her choice. But HIS.”

“HIS was what we defied.”

“True, but HIS was never the correct one. The dimension was there for us to take. The inhabitants were naïve and were easy to influence. We showed them some tricks and then they were ours to command.”

Merlin looked away. He was aware of the history and how they progressed was amazing. The more we feed them they demanded more of us. Azrael and Lilith had some disputes on the leadership. It led to their breakup and the rivalry among them. Some centuries ago, Berlin discovered the Ancient Books in some old tombs. It led him to any new discoveries and also the vortex. It took Berlin over a century to unravel the mysteries.

“Merlin, we need to move. I got more of our friends to meet. They have to be prepared for the vortex.”

“Lilith, Berlin?” Merlin insisted.

“She will join us eventually.” Berlin smiled. “The alliance with Keb was to trap him and his followers. They have served their role and it was time to terminate them.”

“Don’t you have any real friends or enemies?”
