Prologue 35
Othello climbed down
the stairs but he paused at midway. He saw Iago standing by the end, and held
his footing. He looked to Lodovico and Gratiano.
"You two stayed
here in the tavern. Its too dangerous for the two of you to be out there."
He looked to Gratiano still at the doorway. "Call in my guards now."
Gratiano did as he was
told while Iago saw his chance going away, looked to the Legatus.
"Leagatus, they
have come from the far side of the harbour. I do not know who had pulled out
the guards there, but they are advancing here." Iago told Othello. He then
saw the guards came in and there was one other that met his eyes. It was
Branius.
"Branius, take two
squad and recon with the tribesmen. Find their strength and report to me."
Othello told the Centurion from his higher vantage point. He then looked to
Iago.
"Get the rest near
here and formed a defensive line." Othello saw the Iago leave to do his
task. With that done, Othello stepped down. His guards assisted him in donning
his armor and then he followed suit outside. He saw Branius approaching him.
"Legatus, there is
another attack from the rear of us. We been pinned, and one cohort short."
Branius told him. "Servius told me that you sent them off on a patrol in
the valley. We have to recalled them."
Othello did as part of
his vengeance plan. But his plan was for the attack to take place at dawn, but
then was far from dawn. The tribesmen had attacked too early against his plan.
He may still win, if he could recalled the patrolling cohort.
"Ride for them.,
Branius. They may not be far." Othello gave the order.
