0700hrs Day One Killrock Part 1.3

1.          The Shock that preludes a Battle.

General Manning listened to the report and gave its a fine analysis in his mind. He keep on looking at his right metal hand and the digital map of the area. He then looked up at the digital display screen while all his three senior officers await his order.

"We dig in." General Manning gave the order. "We are going to dig in for possible hard battle. We could be looking at double our strength. And we have no air support nor any more reinforcement. I was told that the armada are focusing on a battle across three galaxies."

"If I am any smarter, I would say that we are here for a strategic reason or hiding an objective." General Manning has been in many black ops to know when one is planned on him. "It may have to do with the black box."

General Manning looked at the black box at the side of the command post with two guards on it. He wished he could just break open the box but he was under order to guard it.

2.          Armed Defense Buildup.

Colonel Jahangir split his forces to line between the Mines and Peak, and also the between the two peaks never the lake. He also deploy one Juggernaut at the Space Port, and another at the Power Plant. The remaining Juggernaut remained at the Settlement. The surviving Horsemen all convened at the Production Lines.

The Rangers dug in fox holes and moved the soil with the rocks to formed defense cover. They also brought up the tripod supported rotary guns to the front lines. The limited units of Weasel are distributed to the front lines. If these do not deterred the Draconian, the shoulder launched Thor missiles would suffice to add to the firepower or the Eagles for its multi bombs drop on the enemies. If all that failed then its the PH450 or serrated blades with the battle cries.

The barricade embarkments are the boulder and large stones stacked there with the liquid cement poured onto it to act as the binder and strengthen the wall against missiles. It won't stop a tank but it hold back invasion forces movement if properly covered. They even rigged up explosives bobby traps outside the wall for extra powers. Before these embarkments are the dug out for them to bury their heads in.

Once all that was done, they would wait.

3.          Intelligence finds reality

Captain Dieter led a five men Intelligence Squad up to the left of Twin Peaks. He had his survelliance equipments set up there to see into the horizon. His current focus was on the ruins that appeared on the east side of the Settlement. It was highlighted to him by the Settlers and claimed to be the remains of the last civilization.

"The experts told us it was the Khun." Dieter pulled up the library on the civilization from his database to review it.

The Khun were a blood thirsty tribe that used to occupy a large tract of this land when there was water here. It was over a thousand years ago. The Khun built a high walled city which stretched over five kilometres width and eight kilometres length with one sixty four towers. There are only ten gates on those walls.

They were a formidable forces then with over twenty five thousand warriors but they never went out to conquer the other nearby kingdom. They were a peaceful people with some rituals which the other local breeds did not appreciate. Eventually, the Khun became isolated and then the others tried to imposed their influences on Khun, by diplomatic or by force.

The Khun survived those many wars including sieges with no defeat even against odds of five to one. The invading armies gave up on those many efforts as they find themselves fighting formidable foes. The wars were fought not to conquer them, but to destroy them. The Khun were more than blood thirsty; they were into ritual that invoke the deads. There was rumors that there are no citizens in the city but only the warriors. They cannot die but they will grab the invading armies to feed on them or replace their wounded limbs or organs.

Khun survived for over five hundred years before they were finally defeated by combined army of over fifty thousands. An army backed by sorcerers and wizards. The battle took over a year and half the invading forces died with many more wounded. The victors soon cleansed the Khun warriors by killing them and that took over three months. The city was then tore down to its foundation but there are some sections left for the planet to absorb. Those was over a thousand years and the ruins was all that left.

This was discovered by the Scientific Section during their findings on Selvan VIII. They also knew after the death of the Khun Warriors, the atmosphere on the planet deteriorated over the next five hundred years ago caused the migration of the planet inhabitants. That resulted soon to the current change of atmosphere with no living inhabitants until the current batch of colonists arrived.

That was all it recorded as the scientific expedition was pulled back on the discovery of metal ores. The commercial value of the planet overtook the need to understand the previous cultures. It was also to avoid the Scientific Section finding anything of value and banning metal exploration as happened on other planets. Thus the colony was given priority without a proper evaluation of the risks of coming there.

Captain Dieter was soon distracted by the current need of the battle. He called on his aide.

"Lieutenant Marcel", the second in command and learned scholar on Selvan VIII looked up from the top of the arts Viewer. "Do you think the Draconian are here for the ruins or the metal?"

"Captain, you need not concern on that. The Draconian are already here."Lieutenant Marcel placed her right hand on her holster. She felt comfortable with the PH450 on her waist. "Estimated one and a half division with more armored than we have. Nine BB, with twenty Vampires, and many more armored carriers. I saw also six Scorpions."

Scorpions Walkers are elevated armored tank on mechanical four limbs. The top portion of the Scorpion is the same as the Vampire Class Battle Tank with its main gun, three rotary guns; one on the top turret and two incendiary gun on its sponson on both side but instead of tracks it operates on four mechanical limbs. On the bottom of the tank was the sponson with additional rotary gun. The tank comprised of twelve man crew with a complement to carry four soldiers. The tank sits on an elevation height of ten metres above ground.

"Tell the General, the battle is finally going to start."
