Team Seven of Heroes Chapter 36

36.

Van Helsing stood on the steps and stared into the sub-level. It again another huge chamber but that was lined up with cages in rows. There were several doorways at the sides but it was in the cage that held everyone’s attention.  Not all the cages had occupants but the ones that were held more creatures and then then cause of the scent.

There were vampires in those cages.

There were a dozen of these cages, and the occupants were in a state of rage due to their thirst for blood.  They were also subjected to the intense lightings which were causing them discomfort.

More to that, on the side was another huge cage with some people inside it.

They looked like the staff that worked there.

There was also the mezzanine level there and a single figure stood there behind the huge console protected by the metal railings.

“Welcome to my working area. My name is Frank Moriarty.” The figure on the mezzanine area voiced out. He was dressed in a grey tweed shirt with the white overcoat and sporting a monocle on his left eye. He was also seen carrying a cane then with a red ruby top at the hilt unlike his brother who had a green one. He was also wearing a gun belt with the gun in the right holster.

“James could not join us today for he was wanted in London. As we speak, James is doing his own misdeeds to bomb London with the series of bombings that will ….how did James place it… cripple the city and destroy the country.” Frank laughed. “He is not a madman but vindictive if he does not get his way. He did kill my lover just now but I understand him. I will not stand in his way for both of us think alike in some ways.”

“Like we like to rule a country but not manage it.” Frank laughed louder. “Fortunately I also like to know what made us different. Like Holmes, what makes him tick? Murders and mysteries perhaps. Or the simple notion that he is doing more with his brain that others? How many experiments have you done in your spare time, Holmes? Don’t be vain, do indulge with me. I done plenty but was aimed at one area. The evolution of the species. Like we did from a primitive being to the level of where we are today. What were long treks on foot for months are today achieved in hours. We may one day do it in minutes or even conquered the layer above the skies….”

Frank’s stiring words were interrupted by the single shot at the console in front of him.

“Darn! I could have aimed higher but nevertheless, Frank, please do not compared yourself with me. You are not my equal but another criminal with a demented mind.” Sherlock played to the egomania of the Moriarty. “If I could recall you were once a Station master in West of England. (Told in the Valley of Fear).”

“And I did recall meeting you once. Was it Stonyhurst College where you at times double up for James in the Science labs? James was smart but I guess his intelligence was for calculations while yours was biology.” Sherlock dug deeper into the history of his encounters with the man. “You and Sebastian were cousins, if I am not mistaken. Sadly he became a hunter or did he do that to kill for you?”

“Deductive assumptions once more, Holmes. You are right in most of them. Doctor Watson”, Frank directed to the doctor. “You will not publish those facts for all of you will be dead.”

“With that, I bid you adieu.” The switches were thrown and the latches to the cages were released but only the Vampires cages were opened. The ones with the creatures remained shut. The dozen figures crept out and stayed half crouched from the days of confinement. They looked around and then went for anything that held blood in it. Three Vampires rushed at the direction of the group but Van Helsing step forth to face them.

Van Helsing knew that there was no reasoning with the Vampire for their mind was erased of anything of humanity but their lust for blood and their allegiance to their master, Dracula. He took the staff in his left hand and flexed his control on the silver right hand. He was ready to fight.

Van Helsing rushed at the trio who was in front of him with the shaft gripped tight. He swung his right silver fist at the vampire on the left while the shaft thrust into the one in the middle with his body weight shifted he crashed into the right one.  All four of them collapsed to the rear but the vampire slayer had then withdrew the bloodied shaft and slammed it hard down on the vampire’s face he crashed into. He then rolled over and jabbed his silver hand into the left vampire’s jaws breaking it with force. He crouched up and aimed the shaft at the left vampire which was staggering on the knees with the face bloodied. It was trying to say something but the slayer had no mercy for it.

“Die, you unrested soul.” Van Helsing triggered the whip and watched the extended whip pierced the vampire in the neck. He then sat back on his haunches in state of relief.

The other vampires had gone for the cages but were brought down by the others with well aim shots at the head. Eight vampires fell to the flooring with their skulls opened but one escaped when it jumped over the metal railings on the mezzanine level.

The vampire was then seen tossed over the railings dead and a new figure appeared over the railings. It was a man like figure but with extra height and frame. The figure was dark shaded metallic in design with the front visor for the human face to appear. The metallic figure held two upper limbs with the three pronged grappling finger extensions, and the lower limbs were a set of heavy boots. The frame was however split in the middle section where the cables were seen. The unit was powered by the small generator on its back.

“Gentlemen and ladies, this is Nephilim.” The voice of Frank Moriarty was heard from the metallic figure. “You will feel its wrath now.”

Just then there were loud noises from below their feet, and everyone stopped to hear. It was then seen the doorways burst open and more guards were seen running in fright.

“He escaped!’ One of the guards cried out before he fell onto the ground. He looked towards the doorway as if he was expecting more terrors to come.

It was then.
