1st Rangers lived on in two new tales

Battle at Nimrest

Location": Dense jungle with unique creatures

The start of the journey was more tedious than the last three training on simulated terrain. Their paths were lined with vines which they had to removed with the blades or pulled aside with force to cleared the way. A few times, the Rangers had come on thick barriers of trees and growths that they had to circumvent it as it was impossible to cleared that barrier. Nasha with her mini-gun could blazed a hole but that would be an overkill and waste of ammo.

Marc was pulling sweats on his body and then cursed when he pulled at the overhang. In front of him was a dead flowing river and it looked like there was no way across unlike you have flight option. He looked to his left and saw Basilus have also reached the same predicament. The rest of the squad took a respite on their march while he scouted to the right. During the march, he had seen some of the local inhabitants but they are keeping their distances, except for some he had to dispensed off with the greave blade or his heavy boots. He did not note the fate of the deceased but he was sure they needed no burial details.

It was a short walk when Marc sighted the movement on the river. He was sure the river surface broke just now, as the dead leaves there had moved. He stood there motionless looking at the spot and ignored the creeping creatures around.

Then it moved again. This time there was a glimpse of it.

"Leader, the water unclean. I repeat, unclean." With that Marc raised up his rifle and aimed it at the river. Then he gave his second report.

"Water unclean. Squad on alert." That call was made to all. It got the whole squad up with their weapons ready.

It was just in time.

The river surface broke apart and the scene that unfolded was not a normal scene. It was a group of creatures that looked like dolphins but these were surfacing from the river with riders on their back; creatures of man like frame with the facial expression of the gibbon but without the furs. They were armed with bow and arrows that they released onto the direction of the scout. If not the thick tree trunk, he would had bee impaled with those arrows laced with poison.

"Ambush!" Marc shouted into his comms, as he lowered his rifle to reached for the grenade on his chest. He pressed the trigger and threw it without looking. The grenade sank into the river and blew up a geyser of water but the dolphins were gone. But they did not get far, as Basilus had them pinned down with a burst from his PH375. There were five riders with the dolphins then and sailed to below the surface. It was Mira who did the unthinkable; she fired into the trees and brought down three gibbon faced creatures. They dropped down onto the river unmoving but the riders on the dolphin had returned with vengeance on their action. They released more arrows but this time that came into a hail of fire by scouts. Soon the riders and the dolphins were killed and floated on the river.

Battle at Lavarock

Mira woke up when the water was splashed on her face. She looked out and found herself in a cell, with another inmate. She checked herself, still in her battle fatigue but relieved of the gun and belt. The daggers are still there. She looked at the cellmate.
"I am Mira, Squad Five. 2nd Division. 1st Rangers." Mira looked at the other. It was a lady dressed in battle fatigue but not of the Rangers. She was Frontier Guards. She had bruises on her face and arms but she was not talking too. Mira wanted to asked more, when the cell door was opened.
"Time to move." It was the same two men and are armed with stunner batons. The ladies followed and walked down some darkened corridor to emerged at an arena. There were no audience but there were a number of vid-cams on the arena. Mira and her cellmate was pushed into the arena, and then the announcement came out.
"Squad Five Rangers as per request. Reigning Champion, Frontier Guards. They would fight now. Lay your bets. The Fixer never fails to please."
The Frontier Guard lashed out a kick on Mira which hit her at the lower torso. Mira recoiled back but she recovered fast. She turned her body and did a round kick. It was blocked and got her shin knocked. She fell down and crawled back. She looked at the Guard and then stood up. It was time for the move her once lover taught her. It was called the body slam but instead she did a jump with a frontal elbow hit followed by a knee jacked into the jaw. The Guard fell back and was slammed with a knee on the left ribs.
"Guard down, and Ranger up." Mira was already and rolled over on her side. She also had her daggers out and slashed at the one standing near the arena. She cut into his lower torso with the right dagger and stuck the left dagger into the back of the knee. The man dropped the stunner baton which Mira picked up. She stand up and faced the charging second man with a low swing kick and then dropped the man with a stunning blow on the neck. She then looked for more threats but there was no one but only the vid-cams.
"I am coming for you." Mira spat into the vid-cam before she assisted the beaten Guard. She dragged the Guard out and found herself next to the bazaar. She spied a LTT with Enforcers. She signaled them and then blacked out.

Aye! The 1st Ranger lived on in two short tales of 10K-15K words ( Killrock was 80k....long battle..) but these are never without a moment of rest. Please allowed me an applaud..... ridiculous eight days of writing as the plots comes out with the speed of a mini-gun on the keyboard. I had to take to time out for rest and of course, work. Geez, its tough being a Ranger correspondence......lol.

See ya soon.
