‘What happened there?” King Uther was furious.
“We were late, my King. The castle was
ransacked. We don’t know where she was taken. Or killed.” The commander of the
guards replied to the King. “We were …called away to another place then.”
“Imbecile!” King Uther cursed at the commander.
“Get out now.”
“I want the land searched. The seas. The
borders. Lady Igraine must be found.” King Uther gave the order. “And the
children too.”
Unknown to many, Lady Igraine was back to her
village to seek solace with her family. She approached her siblings and told them
she had returned.
“I am without a home now. I would like to come
back.” Lady Igraine pleaded with her siblings. She was told to leave.
“You are not one of us anymore. Leave now.”
Lady Igraine turned away from her family and took to the coast. She thought
that drowning will ease her pain.
“I will leave now.” Lady Igraine took to the
waves. It soon engulfed her and darkness took over her. It is said that death
was inviting when you are ready, but Lady Igraine was sent back to the physical
world.
“We caught ourselves a mermaid.” Lady Igraine
heard the voice. “She will fetch a good price at the auction.”
That was the end of Lady Igraine’s stay at
Briton and she was to return two decades later.
King Uther did not cease his search for her but
she was not to be seen.
As for the children, Merlin handed the girl to
a good Roman family named Augustus, which much later was to return to Briton.
As for the young baby, he was adopted by
another Roman family and given the name; Lucius Artorius Castus or soon-to-be-named
Arthur.
They
were all united much later in Briton.
