Lone Ranger Chapter 64

 

64.

Lucifer hid behind the wall and the bullets missed him but it took down several of his demons. The place was swarming with the floating orbs that were expended when the demons were terminated. They just floated there unless crushed by the other demons. The demons were expendables and he had sacrificed many of them. His army was huge but so were the enemy weapons. His crude weapon of swords and spears were no match for guns. His leaders were pushing the demons to push forward or use the dead bodies as shields. It was working and they were advancing. He was to move when he was stopped by a leader.

“Master, we have a report that the Devil has gone to the depths. He is …” Lucifer had to decide to save the power or fight Adam. He did the latter.

“Secure the power supply. I am needed elsewhere.” Lucifer did not wait for the replies and ran for the nearest cage. He pressed the switch for it but the cage was not forthcoming. He leaned on the rails to look down the pit. It was a deep drop but he had no choice if he was to save Hades.

“You there?” Lucifer grabbed the demon next to him. “Grab a dead body and tossed over.”

The demon there did as asked and others followed the same action. The demons tossed over twenty bodies and then Lucifer did the final command.

“Jump over yourself!” Lucifer without warning tossed him over the rails. He looked to the others. “Do it or I will toss you myself. Trust me termination is better than being shot.”

The demons there jumped over and then Lucifer did the same. His drop was steep but his fall was cushioned by the dead bodies perched on the sides of the wall. He curled his body and then braced himself for the landing. He had bent his knees and then rolled with the fall. He had done it many times in battles when they have to jump off precarious moments. More to it, his frame was not like the others. His frame was conditioned to withstand fatigue and pains from the many wars he had fought for the Creator but nothing was to prepare him for the descent.

The dropped bodies cushioned his fall but the landing was not without any pain. His rolls ended with his body slammed onto the railings. He was still not there yet but the descent from there could be managed with him scaling and holding onto gaps. He was soon at the doorway to the corridor that will lead him to the place where Adam was supposed to be.

“Dark Ones showed thy self,” Lucifer called out.

“That will not be needed.” The voice came from the area motioned by Lucifer. He turned and saw Eve standing there. He had not seen Eve for a long time. She was Adam’s love after he left Lilith. It was known in the circles of Angels then that Lilith never forgave him.

“Hello, Lucifer. You look good for someone who was kept in the containment for a long time.” Eve smiled. “Before you get all worked up, I am here to tell you that Michael is already here. He landed on Hades with his army. He is looking to terminate all of you.”

“How did you know I am here?” Lucifer asked.

“I am a Technologist. I helped to develop the Hades System, especially the surveillance setup. When I arrived here, I had you tracked down.”

“Why didn’t you direct Michael here?” Lucifer asked.

“I had done that. You are a fool. I am not going to stop Michael from fighting Adam. They can both get terminated. I don’t care.” Eve snapped back. “I want you though. I can take you to the Trident System.  Just say you will be with me.”

“The Trident System? Are you mad? The Creator left it here for it was too dangerous to be used by the others. Even I have not the means to access it” Lucifer replied. “Unless…”

“You have. The key is you.” Eve replied. It was then from the rear of her was seen the four Dark Ones. They were waiting in the shadows. They stepped out and fanned behind Eve.

“Lucifer, meet the Dark Ones. Once they were your guards but now they are mine. We have an understanding amongst us.” Eve laughed. “Do terminate him. I don’t need him alive. Just his face will do.”

It was then Eve screamed out in pain before her soul dissipated into the small orb that floated. Lucifer looked and saw the one of the murderous Dark Ones had stabbed Eve in the back. The right hand with the long fangs was coated in a layer of red. The hand reached out to the floating orb and grabbed it. It squeezed hard on it until the orb stopped vibrating.

“We are the Dark Ones and answers to no one except ourselves” The one that murdered Eve spoke out. “You will assist us in retrieving the Trident. It will be ours. We have waited long enough for it.”

Further down the corridor was Adam faced the trio who had arrived to battle him. He had called forth the Dark Ones to assist him. at the consoles trying to operate the levers and switch. He did not see then the Dark Ones that were in the chamber had convened nearer to him. Two of them grabbed Adam by the arms and hurled him backward.

“What…” Adam was baffled by the Dark One's action. They had listened to him but on that day, they acted as if they were no more his servants

“We will have access to the Trident. We will have access to the Trident.” The Dark Ones called out. “We can leave soon. None may stop us or be prepared to be terminated.”

“No! I am your master, Dark Ones.” Adam called out but his plea was ignored. He turned to the assembled group with Lilith. “Do you know who the Dark Ones are?”

“They are our enemies when we fought them at the outer fringe of the Universe. They were defeated and sworn to be our servants. The Creator accepted their offer and took on the few here as his guards alongside the Wardens. The Dark Ones work in the depths of Hades and those areas where it was most atrocious to dwell in.” Adam laughed. “I knew because I assigned them there. I also assigned Lucifer to be an intern here and with myself as the Chief Warden.”

“Soon, I was to found out that Creator had also stored the Trident here. The weapon they wield that nearly wiped us all from our life. I conspired with the Dark Ones to resurface on my ruling at Hades after I overthrew the Wardens. I have my army of demons but they were my guards.”

 “I have been attempting to get the Trident for generations.” Adam sighed. He then looked at the Dark Ones. “How could you renegade on our alliance?”

“The key is here.” The Dark Ones replied in unison. “We hold the key holder now.”

The walls on the far side shook and then crumbled before the sight of the cage was seen stopping there. A figure stepped out and it was Tonto with Blade closely behind.

“Are we too late?”
